About Craig
Architectural Photographer
As an Architectural photographer, my days are filled with early mornings, and late nights, creating and editing images.
It is an endless pursuit, to tell a visual story through my photography.
For me, this pursuit started when I was 9 years old, my grandfather gave me my first 35mm camera and lenses, his 1950s Zeiss Contax II.
I hold two college degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Photo Illustration from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Photography from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California.
The vast differences in the teaching approaches of these two institutions; and their diverse coursework, laid an amazing foundation for my career.
Post college, I secured a position at the once World-renowned Hedrich Blessing Photographers.
As an apprentice, I worked with photographers, who in fact, developed the craft of architectural photography.
Through perseverance and the ever-honing of my skills, I earned and was promoted to the position of Full-Time Photographer. I enjoyed a distinguished career for 17 years at this firm.
In 2010, I took the opportunity to start my own company – Craig Dugan Photography. My goal has always been and remains, to facilitate my client’s need to tell the story of their projects through my imagery.
In the quest to continually capture projects from unique points of view, I am an FAA Certified Drone Pilot. Aerial photography has given me a whole new perspective and it has been wonderful! (I will say, I do miss flying in helicopters.)
I approach projects as a collaborative effort between myself and the Architect, Interior Designer, and Marketing Professionals.
Through exploration and discussions, we collectively determine which views will tell the desired story of the built environment. This collaboration is evident in the quality of the final images and the satisfaction of my clients.
Craig Dugan Photography is based in Chicago, IL. “The Windy City” is a town like no other, with so many amazing buildings! For an architectural photographer, the possibilities are endless.
Drawing on my 30 years of experience, I have been fortunate to work with an ever-expanding group of design clients. Their wide variety of projects has taken me all over the Globe.
My mission is to transport a viewer to a place or point of view, they have never been, seen, or experienced.
I look forward to my future images, telling many interesting stories of wonderful projects.
